The Punjab Animal Feed Stuff and Compound Feed Act 2016

Poultry is one of the fastest growing industries in Pakistan. It also plays crucial part in everyday life of ordinary citizens as poultry is permanent food item in ordinary Pakistani kitchen. There are many rumors about the substandard feed used by the shed owners and in order to regulate the matters and save the public health Government of Punjab promulgated The Punjab Animal Feed Stuff and Compound Feed Act 2016.

Its preamble says that it is to regulate poultry production activities in the Punjab. It is necessary to regulate the manufacture, storage, supply, transport for sale and marketing of feed stuff and compound feed in the Province of the Punjab, to ensure standards of production and quality of feed stuff, to check adulteration and misbranding of poultry and livestock feed stuff and compound feed ingredients and other related matters.

Section 3 of this ordinance described that what feed stuff or feed ingredient to be used in the compound feed which is used in the production of poultry. Section 4 made is compulsory for the person to obtain the license for manufacturing of feed. There are sections in this Ordinance which deals with the quality control and inspection of compound feed. It also describes penalties and punishment for those who fail to comply with the law.

Overall it is good step in right direction and government need to implement this law in true spirit as this is the matter of public health at large.
